CREATING AN INSPIRATIONAL WHITE INTERIOR

Starting to write a diary is like being in front of a blank page, so I thought that it could be a good idea to begin writing about white in interior design.

There’s the diffuse misconception that using white in a home is simply not practical. That is an unfounded belief: white is easily adapted to changing fashions, it is timeless and it will never date like other colours. A blank palette offers limitless possibilities and can work almost everywhere.

You just have to follow a few practical advices to make this colour right for your home.
White is actually the most unforgiving of all the colours of the spectrum: pay attention not to use only brilliant white paints on walls: white reflects light more than any other colour and the risk is to enhance imperfections.
Keep white away from being boring by using many different materials and textures, and by introducing accents of another colour you like. Even if white hues play the main role in your rooms, bring white towards the other colours you want to use by tinging it with traces of them in pale. pastel shades.
Put accents of colour only in a few focal points. Mix chalky, opaque shades with shiny, laqued ones. Mix transparent objects with rough textures and never let brilliant finishes prevale.

It isn’t true that white is cold at all, but it sure can look colder in a room exposed to North. Northern light makes white turn into gray: prevent this situation by choosing off whites in their warmer shades and by using warm materials like biscuit and honey shades of wood and textiles.

And, at last but not least, remember that monotone doesn’t mean boring and, if white happens to be stained...there’s always bleach.
